The term Reigi,
which can be loosely translated as etiquette is used to describe the varied religious, spiritual and societal rules of the
Dojo, practiced by students of various Japanese martial arts. Some of these rules of conduct are universal amongst the Japanese
martial arts, whereas others are more specific to a particular style or system. The following section details the most basic
displays of etiquette amongst students of the Junsei Ryu Bujutsu Renmei.
All students
must bow upon both entry and exit of the Dojo Building and Tatami (Matted area). The bow should be directed towards the Kamidana
(Shelve Of The Gods) or if a Kamidana is not present; towards the centre of the room.
All Tori (Students) must bow to their individual
Uke (Training Partner) at the start and end of practicing each new technique.
No student will fold his or her arms during training. Folded arms are seen as a symbol of contempt
and direct threat towards the Sensei in charge, and will be treated as such.
All students will attend training in a clean and correct set of Keikogi (Training Attire).
All students will attend training in a physically clean manner,
with particular focus upon clean hands and feet, including the correct manicure of finger and toe nails.
The instructor or instructors in charge will at all times be
addressed as Sensei (or any other awarded title). If the name of the Sensei in question is to be used it should be immediately
be followed by the awarded title of the individual in question (Sensei, Renshi, Shihan). For example: John Smith Sensei.
The command of the Sensei is to be observed at all times.
All Students and Sensei will participate in the Dojo Kun (oath)
at the start and end of every session.
There will be no smoking,
spitting, swearing, chewing gum or any other unseemly behaviour within the Dojo.
No student shall join or leave the class, whilst the session is in progress without the permission
of the Sensei in charge.
No member will abuse, misuse
or demonstrate their knowledge of Junsei Ryu Bujutsu Renmei, Junsei Ryu Hoshin Jutsu Renmei, Junsei Ryu Sakura Batto-Jutsu
Kai, Junsei Ryu Kempojutsu, Hankyo kempo Jujutsu or Junsei Ryu Sen-Ha Kobujutsu Kai to any person not authorised by Junsei
Ryu Bujutsu Renmei to receive them.
Strangle or sleeper holds
must only ever be practiced under the strict supervision of the Sensei in charge.
Gradings (Exams) will only be held under the direction of the Sensei with the prior approval of
the Junsei Ryu Bujutsu Renmei.
Any injuries carried prior
to training should be reported to the Sensei in charge before the student begins training. Should an injury be received during
training then it must be reported immediately to the sensei in charge and recorded in the Dojo accident book.
The Junsei Ryu Bujutsu Renmei may terminate a students membership
at any time should their conduct become questionable.
The students "Budo
Licence" must be retained at all times and be presented upon request by any official of the Junsei Ryu Bujutsu Renmei.
In the event of loss or damage, this must be reported immediately to the Junsei Ryu Bujutsu Renmeimembership secretary. A
replacement "Budo Licence" will then be provided at a nominal charge.
No person other than those authorised to do so by the Junsei Ryu Bujutsu Renmei may write in, alter or other
way modify the "Budo Licence".
Breaking ANY of these rules
may result in an immediate termination of student or instructor membership!
