Kaizen Kai (改善会)
means School of Constant and Never ending Improvement. Its not just a name... whenever we train we must always aim to improve.
There is no limit to how skilled you can become. The style we practice is ATEMI
JUTSU (strike science) combined with Okinawan Karate and the methods we use to train are close to Koryu (old school),
Budo (warrior way), Bujutsu (martial science) or even modern day MMA (mixed martial arts)... but with more focus on tradition.
It is very important to make it clear that we study and train in a Martial
Art and NOT a sport.
We are a small community club based in New Eltham,
South East London, Located only a 2 minute walk from the Greenwich University Avery hill Campus and also just a 3 minute walk
from New Eltham train station. We hold a strong emphasis on discipline and tradition. We also carry a high sense of etiquette
and encourage good manners and humility. There are no egos or bad manners in our classes, everybody is friendly and welcoming
and students from all styles and associations are welcome.

TRAINING
MIND
Budo is
training for the mind, perhaps even more so than training for physical performance. Our Classes are designed to improve discipline,
focus, awareness, observation, patience, and mental processing. This training is equally important for students of all ages.
BODY
Although we emphasize a balanced approach to training your mind and spirit, there is no lack of focus on improving our physical
stamina, conditioning, strength, balance, and agility. Our youth and adult students study full contact Martial Arts.
SPIRIT
While
sport and competition is a part of what we do, it is secondary to martial arts as a means of personal development. Martial
arts are for life. It will help you to be safe, to endure, to succeed, and to grow. It is our goal to create in every student
an indomitable spirit to overcome all obstacles and achieve our absolute best.
KIHON
Kihon literally means "basics" or
"fundamentals" The term is used to refer to the basic techniques that are taught and practised as the foundation
of most Japanese martial arts. Kihon may also take the form of prearranged partner drills whereby two students face each other
and alternate execution of a technique. This approach combines repetition with training in distancing. Targets for punching
and kicking, such as bags, shields, or dummies, are generally used at more within contact martial arts training to strengthen
muscles, bones, and skin. we traditionally train using a small set of basic techniques that are practiced consistently at
almost every training session.
KUMITE
Kumite literally means "meeting of hands" but is more commonly known as "sparring".
The kumite that we practice is contact based, the reason that we train with contact is to prepare us in the even of a real
situation. All strikes are made with closed hands and we do not strike with contact to the face. Kicks however can be made
to any part of the body apart from the groin and the knee joints. kumite bouts are modified according to the age, rank and
gender of the participants. take-downs, sweeps and grappling on the ground is also allowed.
