The Junsei Ryu 淳精流 is a school of Gendai Goshinjutsu (Self-Defence Based Jujutsu Founded In The
Modern Era). Junsei
Ryu was born out of the necessity for a more traditional methodology that is currently and increasingly being missed and ignored
by modern Jujutsu systems in the place of unrealistic, grappling and sport orientated versions of the arts.
Although Jujutsu has existed in various forms within the United Kingdom since the 1900s, over the last century the
majority influence of Jujutsu in this country has switched from Japanese (Nippon Jujutsu) to a more westernised self-defence
system (Goshinjutsu / Goshin Jujutsu). We fully embrace that all martial arts must undergo continual evolution in order
to maintain their effectiveness. As such some modern fighting methods have been incorporated into the system in order to keep
it relevant to the modern day combatant.
Because the Junsei
Ryu system is neither taught nor practiced as a sport, we don’t enter competition fights or teach sporting versions
of our martial arts. Our martial arts techniques are all taught in their pure undiluted form.
It is an objective of Junsei to promote the disappearing technical methods of Goshinjutsu; to which
end the organisation strives to establish a network of support, development, friendship, mutual cooperation, growth, education,
and promotion of Jujutsu & Goshinjutsu throughout the UK and beyond.
